Interview with SciFiChick

My guest today is Angela from SciFiChick.com

SCy-Fy: First up – how did all this come about, Angela?

SFC: I loved Star Wars as a child, but fell in love with science fiction when Star Trek: The Next Generation aired. So, yes, I was a geek in high school. Though, considering I run my own website for all things scifi, pretty sure it makes me more of a geek now.

SCy-Fy: I don’t think anyone reading this will criticise you for that! But there must be more.

SFC: I have a full-time, desk job for an investment company. I have a bachelor’s degree in art/graphics design that I rarely use. Even less frequently, I do drawings of buildings/homes, portraits, and pets on commission. I love movies with happy endings. I’m addicted to too many TV shows – I can never catch up on my DVR. And I read every chance I get.

SCy-Fy: In between all that, how do you organise your typical blogging day?

SFC: I don’t really have “typical” days. I try to plan my posts ahead of time. If I have a couple books to review, I try to write several at a time, so I can spend more of my time reading. I also spend a lot of time responding to emails and planning Guest Posts, giveaways, etc with publishers and PR folks.

SCy-Fy: What are your future initiatives for the blog?

SFC: I just plan on doing more of the same – feeding my reading addiction. And always hoping to increase my readership.

SCy-Fy: Looking forward 3-5 years, what do you think will be the major challenges for SFF blogging?

SFC: As scifi and geek culture continues to grow in popularity, there will just be more and more sites and blogs out there. I think the challenge for newer writers is to find a niche to make their site stand out.

SCy-Fy: Tips for bloggers? For reviewers? Writers?

SFC: Find your niche. Stick with it. And make sure you love what you do.

SCy-Fy: Just between you and me – your secret list of useful resources?

SFC: Publisher websites, Edelweiss (http://edelweiss.abovethetreeline.com/), the TV network channel websites, and Librarything.com (for keeping my books organized).

SCy-Fy: The best books of 2014?

SFC: I’m compiling my list now! It will be up just after the new year. I have a LOT of books to consider, so it’s not an easy answer.

SCy-Fy: Which upcoming releases are you most looking forward to reading?

SFC: A list as long as my arm – anything Star Trek, the latest novels by Barb and JC Hendee, Brandon Mull, Laura Resnick, Brandon Sanderson, DB Jackson, Jim Butcher, Alex Bledsoe, and many, many others.

SCy-Fy: Any last words?

SFC: Thanks for including me!
